Understanding the "Single Bill" Fee on Your Phone Bill
If you receive bills for local and long distance services on one
statement, your long distance company will most likely start charging you for that service.
Most long distance providers are now including the "single bill fee" on
phone bills for consumers who receive a bill for long distance service through
their local telephone companies.
This fee is not mandated by the Federal Communications Commission
(FCC), and it is not an FCC charge.
Not all long distance companies are informing their customers before
this new fee is added to the bill. This is why it is important to review your phone statement each month to look for such hidden charges.
In order to avoid this fee, consumers must contact their
long distance companies and tell them they want to receive separate bills for their long distance calls.
Most companies have various ways for consumers to pay their long distance bills. Such alternative methods of payment include paying online, charging their credit card or debiting their bank accounts.
Things to Keep in Mind
Carefully review your phone bill and any enclosed correspondence from your long
distance and local phone companies.
To avoid the "single bill fee", call your long distance
provider and have them bill your long distance service separately. All concerns should be addressed to your long distance company.
Compare phone services by shopping around until you find one that suits your needs the best.
